National competitive grants program

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Institutes for Water Resources (NIWR) jointly manage a national competitive grants program(104(g))to fund research of a regional or interstate nature. This competition is administered through each state’s Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI), with the WRRI reviewing and submitting proposals on behalf of researchers in that state as well as administering the project funds should the proposal be awarded. The projects listed on this page have been funded through this program, with matching funds coming from state sources, making this program a true state-federal partnership. For a searchable database of projects funded throughout the country by the national competitive grants program, please visit the USGS National Competitive Grants page. Information about applying for this program can be found on our Funding Opportunities page.
